A thousand local clubs, one national office, and a file share

Boys & Girls Clubs of America sets programs, grants, HR, brand, and child safety for about a thousand local clubs. Each club is its own organization. I designed the intranet that connects them, with child safety one click from every page.

The problem

A club director needs a lot from the national office, and it all lived in file shares and email.

/The current program curriculum and the forms that go with it.
/Grant deadlines, HR templates, and the marketing kit for the next campaign.
/Training for new staff.
/A number to call when a child is at risk.
Redrawn in 2026 from the 2014 comps, with a cleaner layout. Sections, the impact scores, and the safety content match the originals. I replaced placeholder text and program logos, and used a stock photo.

The home page leads with how the club is doing

Six scores rate the local club against the national office's own framework, in its own words, each marked on track, needs focus, or below target. You always see which club you're acting for, and the left rail keeps three things in reach: report a safety concern, your favorites, and communities.

Child safety is a doorway, not a folder

Child safety is in the main navigation, not buried under operations. The page leads with Report an Incident and the hotline number, and the report button stays at the bottom of the left rail on every page. Resources, email settings, and safety events are all on one page.

Outcome

It launched as the national staff intranet for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

/Club staff found programs, forms, and deadlines without emailing the national office.
/Safety reports went straight to the right team.
/Clubs used the impact scores to see where to focus.
